FUE Hair Transplant in Bristol

At Hair Transplant Bristol, FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is our primary hair restoration method. Individual follicular units are removed one at a time from the donor zone at the back and sides of the scalp, then implanted into channels created in the thinning or balding area. No strip of scalp is removed. There is no linear scar. Recovery is faster than older strip techniques.

FUE at our Bristol clinic is performed entirely by GMC-registered surgeons. We treat one patient per day to ensure the full surgical team’s attention remains on your procedure from extraction through to the last graft implanted.

Before and After FUE Hair Transplant Results in Bristol

How FUE Works

The procedure begins with a consultation to plan the donor zone harvest pattern and the recipient area layout. On the day of surgery, the donor area is trimmed and anaesthetised. A precision punch tool, typically 0.8 to 1mm in diameter, is used to score around each follicular unit. The follicle is then extracted and placed in a chilled holding solution to preserve viability.

Once extraction is complete, the recipient zone is anaesthetised and micro-channels are created at the correct angle and direction for the target area. Grafts are then carefully placed into each channel. The entire session typically takes between six and nine hours depending on graft count.

Graft Survival and Quality Control

Graft survival is determined by how quickly and carefully follicles are handled between extraction and implantation. At our Bristol clinic, we minimise out-of-body time by coordinating extraction and implantation in sequence, and all grafts are stored in a temperature-controlled solution throughout the procedure. Our team counts and grades every graft before implantation.

Who Is a Candidate for FUE?

FUE suits most patients seeking hair transplantation, provided the donor zone has sufficient density. The best candidates are those whose hair loss has stabilised, whose donor supply is adequate for the target area, and who have realistic expectations about the degree of coverage achievable. We assess all of this at your free consultation in Bristol.

Patients with very fine donor hair, a very limited donor zone, or hair loss still progressing rapidly may be advised to wait or combine surgery with medical management. Our surgeons will give you an honest picture of what is achievable before any procedure is agreed.

How Many Grafts Will You Need?

Most patients at our Bristol clinic require between 1,500 and 3,500 grafts per session, depending on the degree of thinning and the density target. We provide a precise estimate at consultation after examining your donor zone under magnification and mapping the recipient area. We do not inflate graft counts to increase revenue. The recommendation is based on what your specific anatomy will support.

Recovery After FUE

You go home the same day as surgery. Mild redness and small scabs are normal in the first two weeks. The transplanted hairs shed at three to six weeks. This is expected and does not indicate failure. New growth begins at three to four months. At six months you will see meaningful coverage. The final result, with your hair at its full mature thickness, is visible at 12 to 18 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is the most widely used method of hair transplantation. At our Bristol clinic, individual follicular units are extracted one by one from the donor area at the back and sides of the scalp using a precision punch tool. The follicles are then implanted into channels created in the thinning or balding recipient area. There is no strip of scalp removed and no linear scar.

In FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), a strip of scalp is surgically removed from the donor zone and dissected into follicular units under a microscope. FUE extracts follicles individually without removing a strip, leaving small circular micro-scars rather than a linear scar. FUT allows a slightly higher graft yield per session in some patients, while FUE offers faster recovery and no linear scarring.

At our Bristol clinic, most FUE sessions yield between 1,500 and 3,500 grafts depending on the patient’s donor density and the size of the area being treated. We do not rush extractions. Each follicle is removed individually to maximise graft survival.

Recovery is straightforward. Small scabs form at each extraction and implantation site within the first few days, resolving by day 10 to 14. Most patients return to desk work within 3 to 5 days. The transplanted hairs shed at 3 to 6 weeks before regrowing. Meaningful density is visible by 6 months. The final result is seen at 12 to 18 months.

FUE leaves small circular punch scars in the donor zone, each approximately 0.8 to 1mm in diameter. When performed at the correct density and spread across the donor area, these are invisible at any practical hair length. You can wear your hair short without seeing the donor sites.

FUE is suitable for most patients seeking hair transplantation. The main limiting factor is donor density and the size of the recipient area. At your free consultation in Bristol, your surgeon will assess your donor zone under magnification, calculate an estimated graft count, and recommend whether FUE or an alternative approach is better for your case.

It was an outstanding experience from start to finish. Naturally, I was unsure on which organisation to choose for the procedure, but HSHTC came across as professional and caring, as well as having a wide range of availability. There are negative reviews on all businesses, and this drives customers like myself away. However, something told me this would likely be someone with unrealistic expectations, or not reading into the procedure as a whole. I chose to ignore the negatives and read the positives. Sara the coordinator was absolutely amazing! She outlined everything and made it clear of what is expected and what is not. After a great consultation, I was passed to the next stage of meeting surgeon Dr Ditta. He presented extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what he does, so I decided to go ahead with the procedure. The surgery day was expected to be a long, but rewarding day. It started with having to shave my head (mandatory requirement for this procedure). I’d say to anyone the thought is worser than the event, and to just do it for the positives that will follow. Dr Ditta and his team were extremely caring and sensitive, especially with briefing before any painful situations pre anaesthetic. After that, I was allowed to top up when requested and leave them to do what they do best. The day as a whole was enjoyable and interesting to speak to the team to learn more about the procedure and get to know them. Lunch was provided (yay). It was lovely of them to offer, and you definitely need to eat mid procedure to keep energy levels. At the end of the day, I was given clear instruction of how to have the best success rate. It was through a video and in person. If you have questions, ask as it’s what the team is there for. The first few days of recovery can be quite awkward and uncomfortable, but I’d recommend booking 2 weeks off work to fully recover and let the grafts set. Once you get use to the sleeping situation, it’s easy and a lovely break from reality (put pillows below your knees and stack below head for pure comfort!). The aftercare products was extremely useful and easy to use. The grafts will fall out after a few weeks, it’s expected and you’re told this plenty of times!! Having a healthy lifestyle makes your hair grow quicker and thicker, so swap your diet to good healthy hair foods. When your transplanted hair grows back, it’s an amazing feeling, but only the beginning. As the months pass by, you’ll notice a massive improvement. During this process, you’ll have regular aftercare and the chance to raise any concerns. I personally didn’t have any issues and was just grateful to still be in contact and told everything is going as it should. I’m 6 months post surgery and I’m seeing the benefits hugely, and it’s not even reached maximum results yet, as this is one year. Thanks for an amazing service!

Having given some time and thought about having a Hair Transplant, I contacted Harley street hair transplant clinics. The consultant (Sara) explained everything regarding the procedure with Dr.Ditta and the technicians. From the beginning, Dr.Ditta explained the days events and how the procedures would be done beginning with taking a photo of my head and showing me where the grafts would be taken from and where they would be placed. The procedures would be done and completed in two parts, with a lunch break in between. Once completed, Dr.Ditta went through the aftercare, explaining what to do each day for 10 days. I was given capsules, shampoo, sponge, neck pillow for sleeping with and information regarding how to look after my hair. Dr. Ditta and his team were welcoming and friendly ensuring I was looked after throughout both parts of the procedure. Sara maintained regular contact to make sure recovery was going well. The results were great, patience is needed as the grafts start to grow, and then you can see the results. Extremely happy with everything, from start to finish.

Would highly recommend! Everything went very smoothly, communication was excellent throughout. I travelled from Edinburgh to Manchester for the procedure and all travel and accommodation costs were covered. Dr Ditta explained everything clearly and delivered clear and detailed post-op instructions. I was delighted with the whole experience and results so far are very promising!

Overall, my experience at the clinic was positive. Dr. Ditta was exceptional — he made me feel comfortable and at ease throughout the procedure, and his professionalism was truly reassuring. However, I was disappointed with one member of the team who, in my opinion, did not fully follow health and safety protocols. She had her hair down without a surgical cap and was using her phone while wearing gloves, then proceeded to touch my hair without changing them. This raised concerns about hygiene and cross-contamination. Her manner was also not very pleasant, which made the experience less comfortable. Although I was initially worried about the risk of infection, I felt more at ease by the end of my visit. I hope the management reviews this matter to ensure that strict hygiene and professional standards are consistently maintained. Aside from this, I was very satisfied with Dr. Ditta’s care and look forward to seeing my results.

Dear Team. Following my hair transplant last Saturday I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the team, for making my journey as pleasant as possible. From the first consultation, to having my hotel booked, to the procedure itself, I couldn’t have been more impressed. Finally a big thank you to Doctor Ditta and the team, who were so kind when I felt unwell, making me drinking chocolate and reassuring me throughout the process. Add to this, their expertise and professionalism, what more can one ask for? I look forward to the final part of my hair transplant next year. Once again a big thanks to you all. Kind regards Keith Yates

All great from start to finish. Sara with the introduction was very warm and personable, Dr. Ditta and the staff very professional and did a great job in the day of surgery, and Yannis and Stuart were great in the aftercare and checking in appointments.

Before the procedure I had online and face to face consultations with no obligations. These gave me all the information I needed and really put me at ease and gave me the confidence to proceed. Everyone was really knowledgeable and friendly and clearly very experienced. Booking the procedure was quick and easy and I got a date that suited me. The procedure itself went really smoothly I was able to put headphones in and listen to podcasts and was very comfortable. Afterwards I was given really detailed notes on what to do and what would happen and everything went exactly as planned. It was so reassuring knowing that advice was only a text message away and responses were always immediate. I'm two weeks post procedure now and everything has gone back to normal and the recovery is going just as planned. I'm so glad I did this and chose Harley Street Hair Transplant!

Great clinic with friendly and experienced team. I wanted my surgery done in the UK and found the clinic on Google. Process started with virtual consultations with patient advisor and then with the surgeon. FULL costs were given up front, with good finance options available. On the day I designed a new hairline with the surgeon and ended up getting about 1600 grafts iirc, which was good value for money. Clear pre- and post-op instructions given and recovery has gone as expected. Now waiting patiently for regrowth :) - Grant
